Cappadocia, Turkey
Late April -
Early May
2002
Cappadocia is famous for
it's fantastic natural rock formations. Over the centuries people
have carved houses, churches, fortresses, even complete underground cities
where early Christens sought refuge, into the soft eerily eroded volcanic
stone.
We had a look around several
of the main groups of 'rock cities' around Goreme.

Rock formations and the
'houses' or 'buildings' carved into them.

More houses and fortress

Me with my tongue hanging out. Time to get a new look I think.

Entrance to church or hall.

Church or hall. Some of these caves are huge. Miranda is
pretending to be an angel.

Note the ornate carving and the painting on the columns.

Christian settlement rock formation theme park. This wasn't to
bad as it had more descriptions on what each of the rooms was used for as
opposed to the previous place (above) where we just had to guess or go on
what our 10 year old guides were saying using their 20 words of english.
Didn't take many photos as my camera decided to go spastic.

Goreme. Home of carpets, massages, hot springs and great kebabs.
