Turkey
Late April -
Early May 2002
It was pretty mind blowing
going through Turkey as it's like a trip through history starting off with
the Greeks, then onto the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilisations
before finishing with what is now Modern Turkey. Thrown in with that
is the biblical angle at Ephesus where the Apostle Paul and Mary settled
for a time and Paul wrote his letter to the Ephesians. And there is also
the World War One battles at Gallipoli that defined Australia and New
Zealand as nations and launched the career of Mustafa Kemal as the father
of Modern Turkey.
Truly an amazing land with a
colourful history.
The trip started with a bit
of sight seeing in Istanbul before heading off to check out Gallipoli on
Anzac day and the rest of the country. Here's where we went:
Here's the pictures.
