Turkey

Late April - Early May 2002

 

It was pretty mind blowing going through Turkey as it's like a trip through history starting off with the Greeks, then onto the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilisations before finishing with what is now Modern Turkey.  Thrown in with that is the biblical angle at Ephesus where the Apostle Paul and Mary settled for a time and Paul wrote his letter to the Ephesians. And there is also the World War One battles at Gallipoli that defined Australia and New Zealand as nations and launched the career of Mustafa Kemal as the father of Modern Turkey.

 

Truly an amazing land with a colourful history. 

 

The trip started with a bit of sight seeing in Istanbul before heading off to check out Gallipoli on Anzac day and the rest of the country.  Here's where we went:
