Cool and Unusual Shots From The Peru Trip

Dec 2001 - Jan 2002

Here is a selection of shots I consider cool or unusual - highlights if you will.  Enjoy.

Cool: Storm clouds gathering over the Plaza De Armas.

Gross: Roast guinea pig in Cuzco. Didn't taste too bad.  Very gamey flavour with lots of herbs.  And like any good roast pig, it had crackling.

Unusual: Osama Bin Ladin fireworks complete with pictures of the main man and the World Trade Centre exploding.  mmmm....tasteful!

Cool: Among the clouds on the Inca Trail.

Cool: Manchu Picchu and the mountain of Huanya Picchu.

Unusual: Restaurant menu from Aguas Calientes.  Among the gems 'Plates to the pleasure of the victim', 'Gives head' and 'sweated he/she gives trout'.  Click here to see a bigger photo if you are hard of SEEING.

Cool: Watching life go by on the Cuzco to Puno express.  We travelled first class.  Not that that says much in third world countries but it's definitely a great way to travel ... and recover from one's hangover and mis-deeds the previous night.

Cool: Floating islands on Lake Titicaca.

Cool: Dan standing on one of the islands.  it's a weird feeling walking on these squishy reeds.  If you push down hard enough with your foots, you can see water (and feel it if you put your foot through).

Unusual: Motorcycle for hire in Copacabana.  This one has no side stand so uses a rock instead.

Cool and Unusual: Getting to La Paz from Copacabana by bus involves crossing a river.  There's no bridges ... just dodgy looking boats to take the bus across.  Passengers went separately in taxi launches that were equally dodgy looking and hadn't seen a maritime inspection for centuries I'm sure.

Unusual: Llama foetuses at the Witches Market in La Paz.

Unusual: More llama foetuses.  Apparently you burn them for good luck.

Cool and Unusual: Marieke with fruit juice in a market in La Paz.

Cool: Monasterio de Santa Catalina

Cool: Old yank tank lying in the corner of the yard at the local gold mining museum in Nazca.  The car seems to match the colour of the mud brick walls.  I have no idea what the original colour was.

Cool: Water cascading through rock formations near the Islas Ballestas.

Cool: La Huaca Arco Iris in Trujillo
