Copacabana, Bolivia

Jan 2002

Copacabana was a bit of a mistake and we arrived there expecting a lot in the way of R&R but finding little more than a sleepy little town on the shores of Lake Titicaca.  I think we may have got it confused with a Barry Manilow song.  Call it lack of research.  Still ... seeing the faces of some of the people in our group who were expecting sun kissed beaches and girls in bikinis was probably worth the visit.

Checked out the town, Isla del Sol and found a pretty good local restaurant before heading off to La Paz the next day.

Around Town in Copacabana

Main drag in Copacabana....pumping! Not!

The beach. Not a bikini clad girl in sight - let alone a famous Brazilian g-string, tanga or 'thread'.

Motorcycle for hire.  This one has no sidestand so uses a rock instead.

Huge bag of popcorn.

A whole street selling popcorn.  Who'd have thought there was such a big demand.  Actually, these people are dirt poor.

"Olympic class" stadium.  Note Olympic rings above entrance and prominent Coca Cola sponsorship.

Moorish style cathedral.  Probably one of the highlights of Copacabana.  The other's are the view of Lake Titicaca from the nearby hill and the Isla del Sol.

Isla del Sol

The Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) is the legendary creation site of the Inca and is the birthplace of the sun in Inca mythology.

Didn't really have enough time to have much of a look around and didn't take many pictures as a result.  Did however get these groovy pictures of this pig and her piglets.

errrr....some temple.
