Lenka

January 2004

A few days after Xmas and a week of agonising, I decided to not worry about the money (or my lack of it) and go to Prague to catch up with Lenka, a lovely Czech girl I had met for just one day in the middle of the Amazon jungle in Brazil nearly a year before.  A few days later I was on the plane to Prague.

Lenka and I in Manaus, Brazil in March 2003.  I look really thin in the face in this photo.

3-4 days of no sleep on a houseboat in mosquito infested jungle will do that to you.

I was a bit worried that I wouldn't recognise her as it was snowing and below zero as we came into land and she would be completely rugged up.  The last time we saw each other was in Brazil and we had considerably less clothes on.  Still, it didn't turn out to be a problem ... despite being rugged up, Lenka had a hand crafted sign with my name on it as I walked out of immigration. Nice!  I love going out with tour guides!

It was a little funny meeting and going home to someone's place after knowing them for just one day ten months previously and '000s of kilometres away on the other side of the planet ... but ... it felt like only two weeks had passed.

It's funny how these things work.  Prague Spring came early.

Anyway ... we spent New Years Eve together, toured around Prague for a day and went up to visit her parents in the country spa town of Luhacovice
