Somewhere In France
May Bank
Holiday Weekend 2004
We stopped a lot along the way to admire the views. I can't
remember where any of them are so they are 'somewhere'.
There's a lot that's interesting when you get into the French country
side ... although it must be said that the villages are somewhat dead at
the best of times. We often drove through villages and even small
towns and didn't see a living soul. I was half expecting some of the
building facades to drop down to reveal Hollywood backblock style
scaffolding. Actually given the state of some of these crumbling
places, I wouldn't have been surprised to see them drop at all.
Lost Somewhere

I have no idea where we are.

Love this old wrecked Citroen.
Disney Castle Style Church ... Somewhere

Stopped because we saw this magnificent church tower. reminds me
of DisneyLand.

The new bike.

The new bike, Dan and his black Honda VTR Firestorm.
Boy! can the Firestorm accelerate. You almost have to hold onto
the handles. And the sound of the twin beating out through those
exhausts. An uncomftable bike but it definitely puts a smile on your
dial.
Fields Somewhere

The bike.

Love this shot. Fields of god knows what blowing in the wind
against a moody looking sky.
A Town Somewhere

Post Office

Hotel De Ville or Town Hall

Town Parking Lot and War Memorial Somewhere

War memorial and church on a hill

Lost Somewhere Else

Another pulled over on the corner while one of us looks at the map
moment.
A Crossroads Somewhere

Crossroads and beautifully dilapidated country pile ... somewhere.
A Citroen Mechanic Somewhere

The Bikes Parked Under My Window

We were really lucky to find accommodation on the Saturday night as
there apparently, the May holiday is a time for big family gatherings and
all the hotels we found were filled. Eventually, a lady in Rethel
gave us the address of a small place of a highway near Juniville and we
managed to secure the last two available rooms.
The dinner we had there was one of the best I've ever had in France.
We only had a couple of options - wild rabbit, wild duck and fish.
We tried the rabbit and the duck and they were both incredible.
Cooked to perfection and deliciously gamey. The only unfortunate
thing about the whole experience was there was no seconds! We were
the last of the guests to sit and there was no more. I've never been
so devastated in all my life.
A Gun Somewhere

This was a WW1 memorial in the village where we stayed the night and
had delicious wild rabbit and duck.
