Weekend In Brussels

Belgium, March 2005

In March 2005, I took the Eurostar to Brussels to visit Izabella.  Dan was meant to come along as well but was struck down by a some rare flesh eating disease that's highly contagious and makes you feel like shit ... in addition to eating your flesh.  Okay, mild exaggeration.  He didn't have a rare flesh eating disease.  He had chickenpox which is pretty serious for an adult and can cause organ damage and make your gonads shrivel up.

So I went by myself, walked around Brussels, checked out some museums and met up with Izabella for drinks and dinner.

I must say Brussels was a real surprise.  So many people pour shit on the place but it struck me as an amazingly vibrant city with beautiful buildings, interesting streets and a really international feel about it.  Especially when you go to one of the pubs outside the European Parliament and listen to a whole range of accents and languages.

I'd love to live there for a little while ... learn french, speak spanish, eat chocolate, spend the weekends motorcycling around the countryside, drink belgian beer, oh la la la la.

Here's a few photos of the place.
