Portmeirion
First Bank Holiday May 2005
On Sunday
and feeling very hungover, we visited Portmeirion, a private resort and model village located in North Wales.
The blurb "It was built by
architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925-1976 with a view to
demonstrating how a beautiful site could be developed without spoiling
it. The architecture is primarily known as Italianate, with some buildings
designed by the architect and others are rescued follies from other
locations."
It's also
famous for being the location of the famous BBC series 'The
Prisoner', whatever that was. I never saw an episode.

Anyway ...
it's a little weird but a nice place to spend a morning walking around and
getting lost in the gardens that surround the village.
Caterhams in the Carpark
In the car
park were parked about 15-20 odd
Caterhams ... the
later day version of the original Lotus Seven. Pretty, quick and
totally impractical cars. I want one. Part of the reason they
were here no doubt is that 'The Prisoner' drove a Lotus Seven as well.

Red ones go
faster.

Architectural detail

The Bell Tower or Camanile was built as a focal point
for the village and to show that 'something was happening' here.

"... And then I threw her over my shoulder like that
and escaped out the window ... the only problem was that I was escaping
from my own house."
